How to Give Peer Feedback
How to Give Peer Reviews
Based on article from:
Step 1: Change the EDITING setting to “SUGGESTING” (green eye)
FIRST, praise what you liked. Give a compliment by adding a COMMENT at the end of the document. “I liked _________ because _________” SECOND, add a comment on some of these BIG ISSUES. Answer at least six questions: 1. Does the writing catch your attention from the very first sentence? 2. Does the draft match the assignment? (An introduction to a particular theme or passion)3. Did the writer present a personal connection and important and interesting ideas? 4. Is the main point clear and interesting? 5. Even if you are not interested in this topic, does the writing style make you want to keep reading? 6. Is the draft well-organized? 7. Is the sequence logical? (Beginning, middle, ending) 8. Are ideas developed? (Did the author simply state things or explain things?) 9. If applicable, is the draft convincing in its argument? 10. If applicable, is there an unexpected ending?11. Are there at least three hyperlinks? (If not, please suggest where a hyperlink may be appropriate) 12. Are there at least three images? (If not, please suggest where an image may be appropriate) 13. Has a thought provoking/interesting question been asked to the readers? THIRD, make edits directly in the text on SMALLER issues that you are sure of (If you are in SUGGESTING MODE, your edits will appear in green. The writer will be able to accept or reject your suggestions): 1. Change awkward or confusing sentences2. Correct spelling 3. Correct grammar (verb tenses, subject/verb agreement, etc. )4. Offer alternate word choice 5. Add punctuation/capitalization6. Are the hyperlinks add value to someone seeking more information about the ideas being addressed?7. Do the images help the reader to relate to the author?Points to REMEMBER:Time is limited (for your response and for the author's revision), so concentrate on the most important ways the draft could be improved.Be honest (but polite and constructive) in your response.Don't argue with the author or with other respondents.Your input is valuable, make it worthwhile.
